The Talent Professor

Prof. Humphrey Oborah is an Advocate of Talent for over 24 years and serving as World Talent Federation Secretary General/CEO.

The Kenyan who struggled from a very poor background is instrumental for creating several Gift and Talent Screening Clinics, Specialized Academic /Intellectual Clinics, in Africa, and working with several international universities to support the gifted and talented, who may not be endowed intellectually for traditional education.

In his quest to entrench Professional Assessment of Talent and hence Career
Forecasting and related Talent Based Learning, he faced a lot of opposition in his own country

However, the Kenyan government ( hence other African countries) finally embraced his ideas nearly 20 years later, albeit wrongly ( See more at YouTube Channel: DALC Vindicated)

About Humphrey Oborah

Humphrey Oborah was born along the shores of Lake Victoria (Kenya) to peasant African farmers who could only manage one meal per day. His father had to go fishing in Lake Victoria while he, the mother, and smaller siblings would tend to the farms. He started school earlier than the normal age (4years old) at the time but did extremely well in Primary School, which was a typical Kenyan Rural School made of iron sheet roof and earthed walls. In such schools, students would sit on the floor and nearly everyone had no shoes. Oborah actually wore the first shoe when he joined High School and this must be stressed as the usual norm for most rural African children.

His great performance in national examinations at the primary school level saw him admitted to a far location away in another Kenyan Province (Kitui, Eastern Kenya Province) from where he again excelled and joined A-Level Studies in Nairobi Province (Dagoretti High School) and later to join the University of Nairobi for a Bachelors Degree and later other bachelors, masters, and PhDs in renowned world universities.

Perhaps his biggest achievement is in his election as the first President of The Federation for Gifted and Talented – Africa (www.giftedafrica.org ), which is an affiliate of The World Talent Federation (www.worldtalentfed.org). In this regard, he is instrumental for bringing home the entire secretariat of The World Gifted and Talented in Nairobi, Kenya on 26th March 2010, which was attended by a strong delegation from The World Talent Federation and African Government authorities. He late rose to become the Secretary General /CEO of The World Talent Federation.

The visit saw the launch of the Federation in Africa, for the first time, and the beginning of Professional & Scientific Gift and Talent Assessment HENCE Talent Based Learning. The first Anthropo-Biometric Machine was donated at this time to the African Federation.

In related efforts, he has enabled a number of Universities to offer Credit Transfers to degrees for those that were denied access to further education due to rigid admission processes as well long-standing traditions that were not only lengthy but equally expensive to adult learners. He made this possible against a backdrop of high-level criticism but later became the Director of Talent at The Council for Experiential Accreditation and Learning – Africa ( www.cael-africa.org )

He believes in latent potential known as “talent” and remains the biggest advocate of Talent Based Learning in Africa and the world at large. To him, the world can only be a better place if and only when society allows the Gifts or Talents, we possess, to flourish in all our learning and related education systems. He is currently involved in Human Anthropo-Biometrics Research, in Africa, which will enable human forecasting on this continent.

Resume

Although Humphrey Oborah currently advocates for Talent Based Learning ( and cherishes degrees obtained through the same), he previously
underwent the Traditional Academic Learning . A summary of this previous academic learning journey is below:

He was born along the shores of Lake Victoria (Kenya) to peasant African farmers who could only manage one meal per day. His father had to go fishing in Lake Victoria while himself, the mother and smaller siblings would tend to the farms.

He started school early than the normal age (4years old) at the time but did extremely well in Primary School, which was a typical Kenyan Rural School made of iron sheet roof and earthed walls. In such schools, students would sit on floor and nearly everyone had no shoes. He actually wore the first shoe going to high school.

Due to poverty, he could only study under government sponsorship and this saw him admitted to a far location away in another Kenyan Province (Kitui, Eastern Kenya, Matinyani Secondary School, from where he joined A Level Studies in Nairobi Province (Dagoretti High School).

Humphrey later joined University of Nairobi for a Bachelors Degree (Mathematics – Major, Computer Science and Meteorology – Minors).

But during his university studies , he would go teaching in a number of schools in Nairobi (during the day) to help him get some cash that enabled him to support his poor family while studying. So he would use notes from classmates to study in the night while teaching during the day.

His love for teaching ( and later known to be his calling), would ultimately enable him to undertake aforementioned diplomas in education related disciplines and finally graduate with a second bachelors degree in Education

His first Masters Degree involved the study of Computing (Information Systems Management – University of Nairobi)

Over these periods he also undertook (sometimes concurrently) several Graduate and Postgraduate Diplomas in Business Administration, Computer Software Development , Curriculum Construction and Development (Cambridge, IMIS- UK)

This culminated in his second masters degree that specialized in e- Curriculum Development

He continued this work to PhD that involved research on Electronic Curriculum (e-curriculum) with a bias to Gift and Talent Testing (GnT).

It is this PhD work that changed his path into Talent Based Learning Research and hence a shift from academics. He became involved in a number of Talent Advocacy and Research . These not only brought him to the national and international stage, but also enabled him to undertake several research in the areas of of God-Given potential ( also known as Talent).

The best known research areas he undertook ( and that enabled him to attain other 4 Research Based Credit Transfer doctorate degrees) were in the following areas:

1. The Human Race, Inherent Talent and Animal Learning

Metric manifestation of the stratified signal in human rigows

2. Anthro-Biometric values that influence human strength or weakness

The case of social, political, economic, or mechanical process operated by human agency for the human equation

3. Anthropometry and Human Signal Shifts and Shafts

An empirical examination of human neurotransmitter metrics hence quadrants of knowledge

4. Command and Nerve Centres in Brain Diametrics

A case study of human body models in relation to signal paths and its relationship with Basic Personality Traits, Talent Domains and Intelligence Ciphers.

Teaching

Upon completion of A Levels at Dagoretti High School, he taught as an untrained teacher (1990-1993) in Shauri Moyo Muslim School (Jogoo Road, Nairobi) and CGHU Secondary School (Parklands, Nairobi) – Mathematics, Computer Studies. He did teach in the day and read notes in the night from those who attended lectures in the day, at Campus, while at the University of Nairobi ( Bachelors Degree).

He later (1994-1995), joined Visa Oshwal Schools, teaching Computer Studies, and was instrumental in the establishment of the first modern computer system and laboratory in Visa Oshwal Jain Primary School. It is during this time that he, concurrently, also undertook several Graduate Diplomas and later his first Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems

Prof. Oborah’s finally taught Computer Studies (IGCSE and GCE A Level) at Brookhouse School, Nairobi. He was again instrumental in the establishment of the first modern computer system and laboratory at this school. He actually automated the schools’ end of term Report Forms systems. It is during this time, that he was also undertaking his PhD studies which he managed concurrently with his teaching work.

The DALC Education Revolution

Started education revolution by insisting that learning cannot be merely through acquisition of papers and that admission cannot also be merely based on grades Unexpectedly, branded a fraud and ridiculed variously for this revolution by those stuck in the traditional academic and general education systems. Fought the battles, at some point losing public image and being dismissed by even family members, but eventually being vindicated after Kenya Government picked the ideas to start Competence Based Curriculum(CBC), TIVET, National Qualifications Framework

Revolutionary Institutions in Africa

Started the DALC Education ( legendary Talent Based Learning Advocacy institute in Kenya and most Africa) – www.dalceducation.com Instrumental in the establishment of The African Federation for the Gifted and Talented (a branch of the World Talent Federation) – www.giftedafrica.org Pushed and got The World Talent Federation HQ to come to Africa, for the first time, and establish the first Professional and Scientific Talent Assessment Clinic in Africa. This has led to the establishment of many other such Talent Clinics in Africa under the African Federation for the Gifted and Talented – https://portal.talentbasedlearning.com/clinics.php Represented and later on instrumental in the establishment of The Council for Accreditation of Life and Work Experience in Africa – (www.cael-africa.org)

This has enabled many Africans who were initially denied access to degree programmes (just because of misfortunes like poverty, bereavement, etc or mere wrong career decisions), to access bachelors, masters or doctoral degree in reputable international universities under International Credit Transfer System (cheaper, sooner). Instrumental in the establishment of the first and still only Anthropo-Biometric Research Centre in Africa. This is emerging as the only Human Metrics and Human Equation Centre, for Human Action Forecasting in Africa. It is this centre that is helping in Human Career Forecasting, among other by-products- www.acaretm.com

Establishment of Talent Clinics and Talent University in Africa

Perhaps his biggest contribution, midst numerous challenges, is Oborah’s resilience with his Talent work in Africa. This has resulted in the establishment of several Talent Clinics in Africa. Talent Clinics are one-stop locations where citizens can be assessed Professionally and Scientifically for their Talent hence able to know their True Careers ahead of time (20-30 years) and help save them from rampant career wastes due to usual guesswork in career decisions. For more information : www.giftedafrica.com

In addition to this, he established the first Talent University ( a university in which learning is based on your Talent ), in Africa, in 2012 ( Kisumu, Kenya). This was done against many odds that included family acrimony, government reprimands, bank auctions, and many construction reconstructions due to vandalism and theft.
